Grief in Veterinary Medicine

Juliana Kawano Sato

Juliana is a psychologist (Regional Board of Psychology – CRP No.
06/77653) with an undergraduate degree from Mackenzie Presbyterian University
and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Psychology at the Federal
University of the State of São Paulo (UNIFESP), with research focused on the
grief experienced by veterinarians in disaster contexts. She is a specialist in
Mental Health in the Pet/Vet sector and in Animal Loss Bereavement, with
postgraduate training in Eating Disorders (UNIFESP), Analytical Psychology
(PUC-SP/Cogeae), and Suicide Prevention and Postvention (Universidade Cruzeiro
do Sul). She has additional training in Thanatology (Instituto Escutha),
Emergency and Disaster Psychology (Prestar Cuidados), Meditation (UNIFESP),
and Integral Yoga. She holds international certifications in Prolonged Grief
(Columbia University, USA) and Pet Loss Grief through the Association for Pet
Loss and Bereavement (APLB, USA), and she is part of PROALU (Grief Support
Program) and NIPED (Center for Psychological Intervention in Disasters). She
is a Director at Ekoa Vet (an association of veterinarians dedicated to mental
health), Head of Mental Health at Trabalhe Pra Cachorro, columnist for IstoÉPet,
and author of chapters in psychology and veterinary medicine books.
Juliana is also a speaker and guest lecturer in courses and events on mental
health, grief, and professional care in the Pet/Vet industry.

Louisanne A. ‘Sennyey Sanchez

Louisanne is a psychologist (Regional Board of Psychology – CRP No.
06/77576). She is a specialist in Theory, Research, and Intervention in Bereavement
from Quatro Estações Instituto de Psicologia, and a specialist in
Emergency Psychology. She has training in Attachment Theory and Intervention
from Quatro Estações Instituto de Psicologia, and also in Suicide Prevention
and Postvention. She is a member of the Quatro Estações Instituto de Psicologia
team and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at UNIFESP. She is part of
PROALU – the Bereavement Support Program of the Department of Psychiatry
at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP). Louisanne is the ambassador
of Cine Clube da Morte (Death’s Movie Club) in the city of São Roque.
She is a supervisor, lecturer, and writer. Her published works include “E o
tempo passou…” (freely translated as “And Time Went By…”), “A máquina do
tempo” (freely translated as “The Time Machine”), “Ficará tudo bem” (freely
translated as “It will all be ok”), and “Cartas para nós” (freely translated as
“Letter to ourselves”). The first three publications are available in Portuguese
as audiobooks for blind and visually impaired people, as well as the short film
“Ficará tudo bem”.
